Petaluma, CA, USA- The 2011 IGSA World Championships have been awarded to Teutonia, Brazil and the first ever IGSA Junior World Championships have been awarded to Maryhill Washington, USA.
On November 4-6, 2011 the 9th IGSA World Championships will be hosted by the Malarrara Pro Teutonia. This will mark the first time the IGSA has held the World Championships in South America. Teutonia is the fastest course on the IGSA Circuit and features intense head to head competition year after year.IGSA President Marcus Rietema said, "I'm really excited to bring the 2011 IGSA World Championships to Teutonia. Each year this race attracts a huge number of spectators and there is always a buzz of excitement we don't see anywhere else. I'm confident that the organizers and local government will work tirelessly to put on a great event."
With the tremendous growth of the World Championships and the World Cup Series over the past few years the IGSA has decided to hold a separate Junior World Championship for competitors ages 17 and under. On June 29-July 3, 2011, the Maryhill Festival of Speed will host the first ever IGSA Junior World Championships.
"2010 has been another amazing year of growth for the IGSA", said Rietema. Participation is up over 25% this year making this our sixth straight year of double digit growth. We started the Junior World Cup Series ranking this year and it has quickly become the IGSA's second largest class. We're really excited about that. It only makes sense that the Juniors will now have their own IGSA World Championship."The Maryhill of Speed will still feature its' full schedule of Open classes as well.
Additional details on the Malarrara Pro Teutonia/IGSA World Championships and the Maryhill Festival of Speed/IGSA Junior World Championships will be announced in the near future.
The International Gravity Sports Association is the international sanctioning body for downhill skateboarding and street luge, organizing the IGSA World Cup Series. IGSA events involve head to head downhill racing competitions where participants routinely reach speeds in excess of 110km/h (65mph) as they hurtle themselves down mountain roads negotiating ninety degree bends and hairpin corners.
