Hello - Joe Hill

Most underrated Skateboarder?

J. Hello Joe, how´s it going these days?

J. Hello Joe! Its going fine. Just working and skating as much as I can.

J. What´s your job right now ? How much time do you have left for skateboarding?

J. I am working in an Irish bar in Hamburg a couple of days a week and that is keeping me pretty busy but I still skate as often as possible. I usually start work after 6pm so always have time to skate during the day if I'm not too lazy and just get out of bed.

J. Why did you move to Hamburg years ago?

J. I had an offer to come and skate for a new company here called Via Skateboards and they brought me out and introduced me to the city and the local skaters and I just liked it. I have spent 2 good years here skating with that whole crew and they have pushed me further than I would have pushed myself had I stayed at home. Unfortunately Via Skateboards has now gone under and I am starting 2015 without any sponsors but I am still going to stay in Hamburg for now and see what is coming next.

J. What about your German skills?

J. Ha, that is a problem alright! I am actually picking it up slowly from just hearing it all the time but I had no German when I first came over so it has been a struggle. But I am starting a course in January now so maybe by this time next year I can answer some of these questions in German!

J. How will you escape the shitty weather in Germany this winter?

J. I haven't got any plans to escape yet but maybe a trip to Barcelona could help with the winter blues.

J. What´s your best skateboard trip so far?

J.  I have had a couple of good ones over the years but this year the whole Via team went to Copenhagen for a week and that was crazy! That place is nuts! Great spots and nice vibe there!

J. Who´s your personal skateboarder of the year?

J. I have seen some guys killing it this year and there is too many even in Hamburg to start naming. Anyone who had fun and killed it with their crew is my SOTY! Wes was a good choice I think!

J. Any plans for the next year?

J. Nothing major in the works yet but I have a full part about to come out this month and I am still trying to get interviews in some of the German magazines so hopefully I can manage that this year.

J. You say „hello“ to: All my Via homies and anyone who has helped me out over the last few years in Germany. Peace and Happy Holidays!
